Vibration based hard-disk

It seems like time to kiss Good bye to the slow rotating SCSI disk drives...

This company does have some innovative ideas.. http://www.dataslide.com/techback.htm

I guess, the limitation on rotation speed of current hard-disks can be overcome by making the head rotate in opposite direction, thereby doubling the relative rotation speed. But I think this idea is too simple to be a new one.. Any comments?

Institute of Future ??

There seems to be an institute for everything.. even for future!

They also have some research reports. Dont know how good these are. I will post my comments after I go through them

Portable Power and Utility keyboards

Sometime in near future, i will carry my laptop in a bag made of solar fabric which will always keep it charged.

I came across another article in the economist ( www.economist.com ) which talked about extracting keyboard functions from any normal surface. This works by sensing the differences between vibrations produced by taps made at different locations on a plain surface and mapping it to the characters.

Also there are a host of projection keyboards already slated to hit the market.

Guess what! With power, memory (sticks) and keyboards going portable, Future computing maybe all about a having a processor, a display and a wireless connection.

PC vs Telecom Vc Data networking Companies

With Packet technology coming to the edge, Data Networking companies (like Cisco) are staking their claim to traditional grounds (Switching) of Telecom equipment manufacturers.

On the other hand, Telecom handset manufacturers are already talking about replacing the PC with mobile computing devices.
